The flow chart adjacent displays the process within the Contruction Plant Competence Scheme, guiding operatives from initial training to the obtaining of a [red] Trained Operator Card, followed by the [blue] Competent Operator Card.

Working towards a
Red Trained Operator Card the operator is required to:

  • Pass a health and safety test before any training/testing begins
  • Undergo any training necessary to bring the operator up to the standard required to pass the CPCS Technical Test
  • Pass the CPCS Theory Test
  • Pass the CPCS Practical Test

Working towards the
Blue Competent Operator Card the operator is required to:

  • Pass a health and safety test before any training/testing begins
  • Carry out any training necessary to bring the candidate up to the standard required to pass the CPCS Technical Test
  • Pass the CPCS Theory Test
  • Pass the CPCS Practical Test
  • Have the relevant S/NVQ, with the units appropriate to the category of the plant required.
 

In order for the operator to move from a red trained operator card to a blue competent operator card the delegate must pass the relevant S/NVQ with the units appropriate to the category of plant required, within the 2 year life of the card.
